Last day of activities

Today...is a sad day...the campers have had their last day of activities...and have already said goodbye to two leaders who had to leave early...and the campers have to pack up all their stuff.

The kayakers had a special Treasure Hunt. The walkers walked and then met up with the kayakers at Coniston Water. Where they all proceeded to run into the water and have a swim. Jump off the jetty and generally get very wet.

The climbers, of course running late as usual, went to Brantrake Crag.

The cooks today made and decorated fairy cakes for the campers. Chilli con Carne & Rice for dinner with Fruit Salad to finish.

This week has been a long but thoroughly enjoyable for both campers and leaders. Everyone has gotten wet. Stayed dry. Ate their fill. Had loads of laughs. Sung songs. Slept like logs. Snored like giants. But most of all...they've all had fun.

Night Walk & Paddle

Last night the campers and leaders did a Night time walk to the Lake, and a paddle across the lake. Campers were given hot chocolate, marshmallows and biscuits at the rendevouz point. One of the campers had brought his guitar so we sang 'Light of the World' in glorious moonlight on the jetty out on the lake.

During the day the campers were Tea Shop walking, Hardcore Mountain Biking and High level walking (Striding Edge). Apart from a few scrapes and bruises from the bikers, stuffed tummies from the tea shop walkers and blistered feet from striding edge walkers everyone still managed to have space for some Honeycake when they returned.

Challenge Winners...

THE KAYAKERS
To the tune of 'Let it be - Beatles'

On the first day of this camp
We did a capsize test to see if
we could get out

But when we went kayaking today
Barney couldn't get out
He couldn't get his splashdeck off, so

Let him drown... Let him drown... Let him drown... Let him drown...
He couldn't get his splashdeck off so let him drown...

Frankie went to help him
But couldn't get the past the bouy
So POD also tried to help
But he didn't do much

Cos shouted at everybody
Especially Iain, or was it Andy?
We never found out

So let her drown... let her drown... let her drown... let her drown...
She couldn't even get my name right... so let her drown

Monday's Activities & Cake

Last night the campers had a talk from POD on the Fall of Man, and how we have ruined Gods creation. They were put into their chore groups and told to be journalist, some groups had a TV interview with Adam & Eve (another with Moses), other groups wrote a dramatic newspaper article!

The campers had a hearty breakfast this morning of the usual cereal and toast, with additional Eggs & Tomatoes. All of them eager to get going with their chosen activities.

Today's activities are:

- Mountain Biking
- Gorge Walking
- Kayaking
- Hill Walking

The challenge set for the week is 'The Tacky Challenge', which involves buying the tackiest thing you can possibly buy from Coniston for ONLY £1!

Today's Daily Challenge is to rewrite the lyrics to an ABBA or Beatles song to explain the day on each activity. We will post the winner on here later today! So watch this space.

Cake for when the campers return from activities is 'Evie's Marvalous Marble Cake' (sung to the tune of Yellow Submarine - Beatles)

Sunshine... & Sunday Activities

Here's what happened on Sunday!

Mountain Biking:
We did a lot of uphill cycling! Some one-track (technical stuff). Up and down. Up and down. No one fell off their bikes today. We put our waterproofs on because it was drizzling, then when we had them on it stopped!! We had some really good weather for biking.

Kayaking & Canoeing:
We started to paddle into the wind towards Peel Island, or Wildcat Island from Swallows & Amazons. We didn't make it but we had lots of fun. We laughed at a couple of campers who managed to fall in the lake (Coniston Water). We stopped for lunch in a small bay. After we'd finished we rigged up a raft using our kayaks and our ingenious leader made a sail and we sailed home.

Gorge Walking:
We climbed up gushing waterfalls. We jumped into icy depths. Leapt from great heights. Traversed above raging torrents, but had fun getting wet. And then had warm soup for lunch.
NB: Please note slight exaggeration in descriptions of Gorge Walking.

And so it begins...

After a lovely nights sleep, the campers (very refreshed) had breakfast of Cereal, Toast, Bacon & Mushrooms. All of it got eaten! None left. Hungry beavers.

Activities for today are:
- Mountain Biking
- Canoeing
- Gorge Walking
- Kayaking

The weather hasn't been too bad this morning with no rain (YET!). Old Man Coniston has a covering of cloud at the summit, very picturesque. The cooks have been busy making yummy Chocolate Brownies for tea and peeling vegetables for dinner!

Dinner today is Roast Chicken, Roast Potatoes & Veg! And Cheating Trifle for pudding.

Campers Arrive!

It is 3:45pm and most of the campers have arrived. A few campers missed the train, one stayed on it too long! Otherwise they have all arrived safely, are happy and raring to start.

The campers are currently getting themselves dressed for a swim test. This involves capsizing in a kayak and then swimming back to shore.

Dinner today will be homemade Burgers and chips with salad.

The sun has come out in Coniston!

Greetings from Coniston!

The team arrived in Coniston on Friday afternoon. The rain is coming down now but it's forecast to clear up about lunchtime!

Looking forward to meeting everyone this afternoon!
